4 out of 5 stars The most interesting graduation gift!   July 1, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

My mother bought this book for my daughter as a high school graduation gift. Although my daughter received other books about college survival, this is the one the kids passed around and studied at the graduation party. All the books contain similar advice, but I think the title and the picture of the naked, hairy legs caught the attention of the 18 year old girls. The most helpful book is the one with practical advice that students actually read! This one seems to meet those criteria!

4 out of 5 stars The Naked Roommate: And 107 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College, 2nd Edition   June 27, 2008
I love this book. I give it as a gift to all the High School grads in my life. It uses humor and comments from actual college students to address real issues. It reiterates what mom has always told them, but in a new, hipper voice.

5 out of 5 stars I'm a little biased...   May 31, 2008

I love this book and not just because I wrote it! I'm extremely proud of The Naked Roommate on so many levels. I'm proud of the research that went into writing it (I interviewed thousands of college students, student affairs professionals, and parents ). I'm proud of the resources & support services included in it (you'll find the latest stats & facts from the leading authorities). And I'm proud that the book has been so highly valued that it's become required reading on college campuses across the country (it's being used as a first year experience class text and residential life training tool). What I'm the most proud of is the impact it's having on students lives -- I LOVE that this book is making a difference in the lives of so many students (and their parents). If you enjoy the book, there's also a 2009 The Naked Roommate engagement calendar: College Survival Planner and 2009 The Naked Roommate boxed calendar: A Year's Worth of Stuff You Might Run Into in College, and website (www.TheNakedRoommate.com).

p.s. If you know of someone who is expecting, please let them know about my new book, Dad's Pregnant Too: Expectant fathers, expectant mothers, new dads and new moms share advice, tips and stories about all the surprises, questions and joys ahead... (June '08). It's written with a similar tone and style as The Naked Roommate, only instead of college life, it's all about the expectant father experience (sharing the voices of hundreds of men and women, and me). You can get a sneak peek inside at: www.DadsPregnant.com. Thank you!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent read for the soon to be college freshman and parents too!   May 8, 2008
My daughter picked this up during a college visit and couldn't put it down. She loved the author's style and planned to send him a fan letter. I read the book when she finished and agreed with her critique. I am buying 5 additional copies to give as graduation gifts. Very valuable and practical advice for our teens who will be left to their own devices very soon!!!

1 out of 5 stars A less than average book offering generic advice   April 23, 2008

There is nothing special about this book. In fact, there are a ton of books available just like this one that offer useless commonsense advice about college, but very few of these books explore in depth the social lives of college students, and most of the ones that do suck. Books like The Naked Roommate don't provide the real advice freshman need to survive on campus because the real difficulty with adjusting to college life is overwhelming social pressures that students face, not how to get good grades, handle home sickness, or maintain campus safety. Although there are a few crude moments in this book, it almost reads like something a worried mother would write. If you want to know about the real social pressures of college, then read COLLEGE LIFE EXTREME: Lies, Sex, Drugs and Violence or Epsilon Zeta.
